작가 노트 #7

청매, 한지에 수묵담채, 각 49×24㎝, 2018

우리의 선인들은 예로부터 바르고 성숙한 인격 도야에 뜻을 두고
자신의 신념을 펼쳐가는데 있어 어떠한 시련이나 죽음 앞에서도
타협하지 않는 정신으로 살아가는 모습을 보여주었다.

이들의 정신은 사군자(梅蘭菊竹, 매난국죽)에 비유되어 칭송되었는데
그 중 매화는 오늘을 살아가는 우리들에게도 희망의 전령사로서 그 가치를 이어온다.

Since the old times, our ancestors had their minds set on cultivating
righteousness and maturity of character.
They pursued a life of conviction and solitude
where they did not surrender to any hardships, even death.

Their noble ideals were eulogized and eloquently expressed through
symbols such as the four gracious plants:
plum blossom, orchid, chrysanthemum and bamboo.
Among these, the plum blossom remains a semantic messenger of hope and
its values are those that are still relevant to the present generation.
